One of my closest friends and her husband are expecting a baby girl this Fall, and I couldn't be more excited for them. There is nothing more magical than a couple's first baby. It's a wildly fun and special time, and I was so thrilled when Sarah asked me to photograph her growing baby bump. The same weekend of her maternity session, I co-hosted a baby shower for her with several of our sorority sisters and her family. Sarah's sister-in-law and sister are amazingly talented in their DIY craftiness, so the shower was filled with personal touches and handmade goodness...
Bridal shows are a ton of fun. It's a fantastic time to see and connect with my favorite vendors and photography friends, but more importantly it's a time when I get to meet new brides and women planning weddings! This year in August, both A Southern Tradition and Tanarah Luxe Floral invited me to document their booth designs. These companies are run by amazing, talented, brilliant and kind women. I am always thrilled when asked to help them out and photograph their hard work - there is nothing more rewarding than working with creative people who are passionate about what they do. Here are a few of my favorite details from their booths!

Meet Rachel. This awesome chic is not only one of my best friends, but she also works as my assistant on weddings and some portrait sessions. She's super fun, super sweet and I can almost guarantee that she will make you laugh. She loves all things wedding and is a romantic at heart, so she's a natural for this job. Last week, we headed out in the evening to take some new headshots for her. Since we both live in downtown Little Rock, we opted to shoot in my neighborhood and take advantage of the rose bushes and lovely sidewalks.
In addition to Rachel's portraits, I wanted to use this blog post as a way for my blog readers to get to know a little about her. Here are a few fun facts about Rach:
1) What do you love about weddings?
I love the creativity you get to see at weddings. Couples have such a unique way of exhibiting their own style. But above all else, it's all about the florals for me.
2) What's your favorite pastime?
Favorite pasttime would be playing Kickball. I'm taking a season off, but I definitely miss dressing up in crazy costumes each weekend and playing with my friends.
3) If you could travel...
Shortly after I moved to Little Rock, I was asked by a friend and then co-worker to join the committee for the Red Jacket Ball. It was the first year that City Year, an arm of Americorps, had been in Little Rock and it was the first annual ball. Working with the committee and the City Year corps members, I learned a lot and saw Little Rock's charitable and non-profit community in a new light. It was energetic, young and it was fun. I met dozens of friendly, eager people who were determined to make a difference in the youth in Little Rock and improve the education of as many young kids as possible through this program. City Year is inspiring and I love that it's a part of the city I live in.
This year, my friend and assistant, Rachel, has been serving as a corps member for the past 10 months. She asked me a few months ago to come and take some photos of her fellow corps members and the kids they work with. I did and I loved it. It was inspiring to see young people helping young people. Corps members really make a difference in these kids'...
Picking your outfits for your portrait or engagement session should be fun! What you wear is a reflection of your personalities and the season. Since Spring has sprung and it feels like Summer is just around the corner, I thought I'd put together a little bit of inspiration for portrait season! I recommend keeping it simple and timeless, but add in some fun elements to punch up your look a notch. For the ladies, adding a pop of color, some fun shoes, and some accessories that coordinate with your look really help pull everything together. For the guys, keep it really simple - coordinate his look with yours and opt for solid tops and khakis, or a blazer over a fitted t-shirt with jeans or slacks.
Here are a few fun outift ideas I found on Polyvore. If you haven't visited this site, you should! It's an awesome resource for fashion - affordable and luxury - and it's a great place to try mixing and matching pieces before you buy. If you like any of what you see below, just click on the look 'title' and you'll be taken to the Polyvore page that will show you what store every item...
When I planned my trip to WPPI this year, I knew I wanted to do a shoot that would be fun and totally different from what I normally photograph. I'd heard from other photographers how great Victor's Mad-Men themed shoot last year was, so I quickly jumped at the opportunity to be part of his 1920's baseball shoot this year.
This shoot was so well put together. The costumes, hair & makeup and models were spot on. I couldn't have put together a more 'League of Their Own' shoot if I'd tried with the help of professional costume designers! Here are a few of my favorite shots from this super fun session:
I'm a romantic at heart, so I love this holiday. What's not to like about showing your loved ones that you care? Yes, Valentine's Day can be a mushy romantic holiday for couples, but it can also be a day where we remind those around us how much we love them and how much they mean to us. I think it's too easy in life for things to get ho-hum. For daily chores and the mundane to get in the way of our ability to really connect, to actively love and be loved. Today is a day to shout from the rooftops that you love your husband, your dog, your kids, your best friend, your whomever.
Love is contagious and feeling loved makes people happy. So, do something loving on this Valentine's Day. Give someone a hug. Share a box of chocolates. Drop a Valentine in their mailbox. Let them know you care. Maybe they'll do the same for someone else, and wouldn't that be nice?
Happy Valentine's Day!!
Deciding who to hire to photograph your wedding is a big decision. When you hire a photographer to document your wedding, you're entrusting that person to capture the emotion of the day, the important moments and all of the details and candor in between. Hiring the right person means that you'll blessed with amazing images that will allow you to relive the emotions and the beauty of your wedding. But what comes after the wedding? Hopefully, when you interviewed your photographer you saw some of his/her sample wedding albums. Finding a photographer who understands how to take great images is important, but it's also important to find a photographer who also understands the significance of your wedding album.
I think every couple who invests in their wedding photography should also invest in their album - a big, beautiful wedding album. Your wedding album is your first family heirloom. You'll share it with your children and your grandchildren. You'll flip through it at least a hundred times in your lifetime. It's the one thing that you will have to pick up, hold, touch, feel and look through sixty years from now. It will transport you back to one of the most magical...
I love the Arkansas Democrat Bridal Show. They do an awesome job of putting on a show that's super fun for the attendees - the show includes games, contests and a stellar fashion show. There are 200 vendors and more than 3,000 attendees, so it's a crazy event but everyone is super friendly and the day is just plain FUN. I like to bring my camera along with me so that I can snap some images of some of my wedding vendor friends' booths - they put so much work into the day that it's a shame for them not to have some images to look back on.
Here are a few shots of my booth and some of the awesome work that was on display:
Events, Rental & Floral in Conway did an awesome job with their blue and white themed booth, and I'm OBSESSED with the brooch and fabric bouquet they created. How could a girl not love all that bling??
A Perfect Bloom put together an ivory, green and chocolate color palette.
Young Designs had a super fun booth with my favorite colors - black, red and sparkle.
The Blue Cake Company outdid themselves with their cake designs.
They had samples on hand too, and...

I've included everything from an editor's page that introduces myself and tells my story, client testimonials, a gorgeous double-page spread that highlights my clients' amazing wedding details, wedding day photography timeline information, a vendor feature, information about portraits and MORE!
