Rachel’s Little Rock Headshots

Meet Rachel. This awesome chic is not only one of my best friends, but she also works as my assistant on weddings and some portrait sessions. She's super fun, super sweet and I can almost guarantee that she will make you laugh. She loves all things wedding and is a romantic at heart, so she's a natural for this job. Last week, we headed out in the evening to take some new headshots for her. Since we both live in downtown Little Rock, we opted to shoot in my neighborhood and take advantage of the rose bushes and lovely sidewalks. In addition to Rachel's portraits, I wanted to use this blog post as a way for my blog readers to get to know a little about her. Here are a few fun facts about Rach: 1) What do you love about weddings? I love the creativity you get to see at weddings. Couples have such a unique way of exhibiting their own style. But above all else, it's all about the florals for me. 2) What's your favorite pastime? Favorite pasttime would be playing Kickball. I'm taking a season off, but I definitely miss dressing up in crazy costumes each weekend and playing with my friends. 3) If you could travel...

MaryBeth and Aaron’s Wildwood Engagement Portraits

MaryBeth and Aaron are getting married in October in Little Rock. They wanted to find a location that was both outdoorsy and sophisticated, and I knew Wildwood be the perfect location for their engagement portraits. The grounds at Wildwood are beautiful and there are several different parts of the park that are great for portraits. MaryBeth told me she was coming with props and her puppy, Prancer, so I knew I was in for a treat! Check out this sweet couple's session: ...

City Year Little Rock’s Red Jacket Ball

Shortly after I moved to Little Rock, I was asked by a friend and then co-worker to join the committee for the Red Jacket Ball. It was the first year that City Year, an arm of Americorps, had been in Little Rock and it was the first annual ball. Working with the committee and the City Year corps members, I learned a lot and saw Little Rock's charitable and non-profit community in a new light. It was energetic, young and it was fun. I met dozens of friendly, eager people who were determined to make a difference in the youth in Little Rock and improve the education of as many young kids as possible through this program. City Year is inspiring and I love that it's a part of the city I live in. This year, my friend and assistant, Rachel, has been serving as a corps member for the past 10 months. She asked me a few months ago to come and take some photos of her fellow corps members and the kids they work with. I did and I loved it. It was inspiring to see young people helping young people. Corps members really make a difference in these kids'...

What to Wear to your Spring Session?

Picking your outfits for your portrait or engagement session should be fun! What you wear is a reflection of your personalities and the season. Since Spring has sprung and it feels like Summer is just around the corner, I thought I'd put together a little bit of inspiration for portrait season! I recommend keeping it simple and timeless, but add in some fun elements to punch up your look a notch. For the ladies, adding a pop of color, some fun shoes, and some accessories that coordinate with your look really help pull everything together. For the guys, keep it really simple - coordinate his look with yours and opt for solid tops and khakis, or a blazer over a fitted t-shirt with jeans or slacks. Here are a few fun outift ideas I found on Polyvore. If you haven't visited this site, you should! It's an awesome resource for fashion - affordable and luxury - and it's a great place to try mixing and matching pieces before you buy. If you like any of what you see below, just click on the look 'title' and you'll be taken to the Polyvore page that will show you what store every item...

Jamie & Michael’s Little Rock Easter Portraits

I love it when my clients come back to me after their wedding for more portraits. Remember Jamie and Michael? I shot their wedding last May. Jamie emailed me a few weeks ago and asked me to take some Easter portraits for her and Michael. I loved the idea. I loved it even more when she said she wanted to bring Jaws, their bulldog. I secretly hoped she would bring some bunny ears for him, but I opted not to ask about it since cute, fluffy ears on such a masculine pooch might offend Michael. To my surprise, Jamie was on the same wavelength as me and showed up with ears in hand! Here are a few of my favorite Easter portraits of The Newtons: ...

Kayla and Luke’s Wedding at OneChurch and Hendrix

Kayla and Luke were married at OneChurch in Conway on St. Patrick's day. The bride and groom were totally relaxed and the day was very calm. When my assistant and I arrived to begin photographing, we found that Kayla and the makeup artist were the only people there. She was glowing and totally happy with a quiet, peaceful morning on the day of her wedding. It was a little rainy and overcast, but that didn't phase Kayla at all. She knew that I would be happy with the cloud cover since we were shooting portraits at high-noon, and I couldn't have asked for a more awesome client at that moment! Luke and his groomsmen arrived an hour later and they, too, were just as calm and collected. OneChurch in Conway has amazing natural light and distressed brick and stucco walls. It was the perfect location for Kayla and Luke's wedding. Here are some of my favorite details, portraits and real moments from their day: Doesn't Kayla make a stunning bride? After Luke's portraits, we headed to the ceremony location for their first look. I knew the day was going to be totally chill when Kayla greeted Luke with a "What's up?!?" as she...

Thinking about a Boudoir Session?

Come'on, you know you've thought about it, even if for just a fleeting moment. What woman doesn't want to have gorgeous photos of herself?? And what man doesn't want to see his wife looking totally amazing and hot?? Am I right? I'm right. My sessions are super fun and glamourous. Think makeover + a supermodel photo shoot experience.  But you say, "I dunno, isn't boudoir a little  sleazy?" I say, no way! Boudoir doesn't mean scantily clad women in all too suggestive poses. Boudoir can be soft, romantic and subtle. It can be demure and sweet. Yes, it can be bold and seductive, but at the same time totally tasteful and sophisticated. My goal for every boudoir session is to take beautiful photos of you. The real you. The you you want to reveal. The you you want to bring out, or the you you want to remember. Have you had a baby and lost your baby weight? Are you turning 40 and feel fantastic and want to celebrate? Are you getting married and want to show your hubby-to-be how much you love him? It's all about embracing who you are and letting that shine through in your photographs. I promise, it...

On Turning 29…

So, last Sunday I celebrated my 29th birthday. I went into the weekend feeling a little sorry for myself. I made fun of my husband for being older than me (by a month) and probably irritated my friends and family who are  older than me by a few years and some by a few decades. I whined and I wined. I mean, no one really wants to get older, right? When the actual day rolled around, I reflected. I realized that what it means to grow older means so much more to me now than I expected it would or could. I'm a planner. Always have been, always will be, and when I was younger, I thought a lot about "growing up." I daydreamed about my wedding, what it would be like to be a real grown-up with a job, having kids, yada yada yada. Well, now I'm here and I'm almost 30, and I'm thinking, what's next? What do I plan for now? Then, it dawned on me! The rest of my life, and Emma-Kate's life, and Andrew's life is what's next...
